Documentary IS Narrative Film!

At this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, Michael Moore gave a keynote address to
filmmakers that spelled out his 13 rules for documentary filmmaking. The first rule was to stop
calling yourself a documentarian, and start just going by filmmaker! Manny Marquez will discuss
Moore’s 13 rules, and add a few of his own, based on his 10 plus years working in film. He
will speak of the importance of a good story in every film, not just scripted films, and how that
crosses over into documentary. The purpose of this workshop will be for you to realize every
good documentary is a narrative film, and our goals as filmmakers are to entertain our audience,
not just inform them, and leave them wanting to see more. Everyone is welcomed to join the
discussion, from the casual film watcher, to the avid cineaste...Manny wants to see you there!
